Emergence of diabetes mellitus in a Mexican-origin population: a multiple cause-of-death analysis
Article Abstract:
The hypothesis regarding the 'New World Syndrome' is that it is comprised of disorders which are a result of the interaction between the Amerindian genotype and an environment which has a totally different life pattern and diet. The main component of the syndrome is diabetes mellitus. The origin of diabetes mellitus in a Mexican-origin population has been analyzed with the application of a data set with regularly defined death causes and demographic features.

Demographic, social, and economic effects on Mexican causes of death in 1990
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to examine the demographic, economic and social influences on the causes of death in Mexico in 1990. Data for samples of 32 Mexican federal entities were collected from the state death registration system by the federal government which was published in the Anuario Estadistico. Results indicate strong socioeconomic influences on the cause of death in Mexico that include marriage and divorce, housing characteristics and crowding.
