Establishing functional classes in a chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes) with a two-item sequential-responding procedure
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to establish functional classes in a chimpanzee using a successive-reversal training procedure. A female chimpanzee was used for the experiment. The chimp was subjected to a pair of stimuli and as required to respond to each stimulus sequentially. Findings indicated that the sequential response was controlled only by the stimulus of the first stimulus of each pair. The chimp responded successfully of the two merged lists and reversed the order as a result of the reversal training.

Pigeons' discrimination of paintings by Monet and Picasso
Article Abstract:
Analysis of experiments conducted on eight Columba livia pigeons, kept separately in stainless steel cages at 80% of their free-feeding body weights, reveals that the pigeon behavior was controlled when looking at the inverted paintings of Picasso but was uncontrolled by the visual images of moving paintings. The results lend credence to the view that pigeons are capable of grouping visual stimuli into specific categories.

Visual search by chimpanzees (Pan): assessment of controlling relations
Article Abstract:
Analysis of three adult chimpanzees, 15 years old male Akira, 11 years old female Chloe and 15 years old female Ai, all trained in different types of conditional discrimination, reveals that the behavior of Akira was directed primarily by relational cues of target-distructure peculiarity. The behavioral patterns of Chloe and Ai were controlled by the identity relation between the sample and the target.
