'Fatal Attraction' and the attraction of fables: a morphological analysis
Article Abstract:
The plot of 'Fatal Attraction,' analyzed according to Vladimir Propp's 'Morphology of the Folktale,' is like a fairy tale that prompts and reinforces conservative impressions of socially defined gender roles. The depiction of liberated and powerful women endangering the male dominated family unit captures the tension between genders that resides in the audience's sub-conscious. 'Fatal Attraction' was popular because of its successful adaptation of Folkloric narrative structures in portraying gender anxiety.
