HIV risk behavior among alcoholic inpatients before and after treatment
Article Abstract:
Self-report data was collected from alcoholic inpatients to examine the natural history of HIV risk behavior among alcoholics during pretreatment active alcoholism, and posttreatment sobriety and postrelapse. No differences were found on pretreatment HIV risk behaviours. From the 28 completers, nine relapsed before follow up, and findings suggest that survivors significantly decreased HIV risk behavior during posttreatment sobriety.

Glutamate and gama-aminobutyric acid (GABA(sub A)) receptor expression differs between alcoholics and controls, where as glutamate receptor differences are muted.
