HOPE for Kids: empowering public housing communities
Article Abstract:
The nonprofit organization called HOPE for Kids aims to improve public housing and low-income communities. Originally a national child health outreach program, it has transformed into a volunteer organization that serves needy communities through unique programs, resident empowerment activities, volunteer outreach and collaborative partnerships with different sectors of society. Volunteers who work for HOPE for Kids usually live in the targeted low-income communities and therefore provide an accurate assessment and satisfaction of the needs of residents. The programs offered by the organization are focused on public health issues, academic opportunities, after-school activities, cultural arts, mentoring and community service.
