Hulot, vs. the 1950s: Tati, technology and mediation
Article Abstract:
French filmmaker filmmaker Jacques Tati's most important works are Jour de fete, Les Vacances de Monsieur Hulot and Mon oncle. These films which were made within the period of 1947 through 1958, focused on the effects of urban design, mass production and technology at the level of individual behavior. The interactions of human beings with technology is one salient aspect of Tati's films. Tati used his films to intervene in certain aspects of consumer-oriented technology and to ask his viewers to take actions in remaking their environment in their own interests.
