Interrogating Richard Leo's claims about police scholarship
Article Abstract:
Richard Leo's negative evaluation of 1990s police scholarship is incorrect. Sociolegal studies and police scholarship are, in fact, improving as scholars reflect the influence of European and American theorists. Critical police scholarship is unduly influenced by the policy-making audience. Scholars have begun to venture into areas, such as community policing or state formation police issues, which were never explored by the 1960s police scholars held in hight regard by Leo.
