Lanterns of the Mid-Autumn Festival: a reflection of Hong Kong cultural change
Article Abstract:
There have been various changes relating to lanterns in the Mid-Autumn Festival in Hong Kong. These have come about because of social change, families, and living environment and standards. Children used to play with lanterns outside their homes with neighbors, but they no longer do so, and lanterns are now mainly indoors. Increased wealth has led to children having more than one lantern each, although there are now fewer children. Children used to make lanterns at home, but they now do so at school.

Children and family change: Discourse between social scientists and the media
Article Abstract:
The media have treated the issue of divorce rather like a spectator sport, and the reasons why divorce and other related family changes provoke such an interplay between social science and the media are examined. Social scientists do not communicate well with the mass media, and journalists are equally poorly prepared. Researchers could take greater responsibility for communicating with journalists, and journalists could be trained better to converse with researchers.

Criminalising survival: images and reality of street children
Article Abstract:
An alternative concept of child streetism is developed using facts and information derived from surveys and studies conducted in Africa. This concept differs from the images proposed by the media and other professional organizations, such as inadequate nutrition and physical deprivation. On the contrary, street children have been found to earn higher income than most adults. Other misconceptions, such as individualism and unhealthy lifestyle, were also disproved.
