Mental representations of trait categories and their influences on person perception

Article Abstract:

Studies on the mental representations of the organization of acts into traits and its effects on person perception show that these representations are consensual and influence person perception. A study shows agreement among the subjects on ratings of three aspects of various acts. A second study, subjects show a greater willingness to describe an actor's act with a trait when the acts were prototypical to each other than when they were not. A third study shows that the prototypicality of predicted acts does not affect the prediction of acts.
