Moving from sustainable management to sustainable governance of natural resources: The role of social learning processes in rural India, Bolivia and Mali

Article Abstract:

The conceptual, methodological and practical framework within which the limitations of the conventional notion of natural resource management (NRM) can be overcome and the key factors that enable or hinder the transformation of sustainable management to sustainable governance of natural resources through social learning processes and communicative action are discussed. The potentials and limitations for broadening communicative actions are explored with case studies.

A comparative study of land tenure, property boundaries, and dispute resolution: case studies from Bolivia and Norway

Article Abstract:

A comparative analysis of land use in rural Bolivia and Norway is discussed. The authors, stating that Norway has the highest standard of living while Bolivia has struggled to provide its people with the most basic needs, maintain both rural populations share a complex relationship with their land, and land has a deep cultural meaning that influences land disputes over property boundaries.

The author discusses how rural societies are not solely structured around social class. Also mentioned is that rural social class structure may tell us about how rural populations view their own class position and status.
