Organizing on behalf of families: facilitating a "community application" to a state block grant to reduce teenage pregnancies
Article Abstract:
The parents, teenagers and social service providers of Green County, OH, were organized by the local Family and Children First Council to avail of a wellness grant to reduce the number of teenage pregnancies. The response of the community to the shift in federal-local funding was then studied. The issues faced by the planning committee such as target population, expected outcomes and intervention were taken into account. The results of Greene County's experience show that planning, which takes into consideration the values of the community, is a necessity.

Adolescent immigrants in search of identity: clingers, eradicators, vacillators and integrators
Article Abstract:
An exploration of how immigrant adolescents from the former Soviet Union cope with issues of identity after moving to the US reveals four patterns of coping. The patterns of coping with the dual-identity crisis are clinging, eradication, vacillating and integrating. Each type is described. The results are based on observations of teenagers taking part in the Jewish Board of Services for Families and Children's Russian Adolescents Project.
