Resolving family dilemmas and conflicts: Beyond utopia
Article Abstract:
The traditional concept of the family has changed significantly over the last 50 years, from a homemaker/breadwinner situation, which accounted for almost 60% of US households, to a less well-defined era, where the traditional homemaker/breadwinner situation accounts for only 15% of households. It is argued that society should avoid focusing on 'family correctness' in order to engage a new social consensus which deals with contemporary family problems.

Schooling for democracy: Toward a critical utopianism
Article Abstract:
Democratic pedagogies aim to motivate schools, communities, teachers and students into pursuing policies which make a contribution to improving quality of life, social justice and equality. A case study of a Brazilian school is used to illustrate how democratic schooling is being implemented, while increased corporate sponsorship of schools in the US is claimed to reduce the possibility of democratization of US schools.
