Sensitivity to relative reinforcer rate in concurrent schedules: independence from relative and absolute reinforcer duration

Article Abstract:

This article examines the effects of varied reinforcer rates and magnitudes on the behavioral sensitivity of trained pigeons during a two-key response task. Findings indicate that behavioral sensitivity remained constant when equal-sized reinforcers were used regardless of their magnitude or rate.

Still no evidence for temporally extended shock-frequency reduction as a reinforcer

Article Abstract:

This article examines the relationship between reinforcement, natural stimuli, and avoidance in animals during tasks involving electric shocks. Findings indicate that conditioned avoidance responses become naturally reinforcing stimuli to animals due to their negative correlation with shock incidence.

Resistance to reinforcement change in multiple and concurrent schedules assessed in transition and at steady state

Article Abstract:

A study of the resistance to reinforcement change in multiple schedule components in pigeons by obtaining data at both transition- and steady-states reveals that target response rate is inversely proportional to total reinforcement and directly proportional to the reinforcement for that response. Response rate in the leaner component is resistant to changes in the schedule. Distance between baseline and the new steady-state that is achieved when the disruptor is present may serve as a suitable scale for the study of transitional data.
