Serum testosterone, cortisol, glucose, and ethanol in males arrested for spouse abuse
Article Abstract:
Intoxicated males tested within an hour of arrest for spouse abuse had similar serum testosterone, cortisol and glucose levels as nonviolent intoxicated pub patrons. Sober state cortisol and glucose levels, however, were higher for alcoholic offenders than for nonalcoholics. Violence and alcoholism, therefore, could be maladaptive coping behavior that is not related to hormonal changes. Data from the Straus Conflict Tactics Scale (CTS) show that verbal aggression is more common among offenders and victims than among control groups.

"Betrayal and repetition" revisited: a relational perspective on sexual abuse
Article Abstract:
Cognitive behaviorally oriented step groups are inadequate in addressing all the needs of an abused girl. It may be necessary to address the child's internal scenario of the abuse through psychoanalysis. A relational theory of psychoanalysis can provide a more applicable paradigm from which to see the victim's experience. This approach allows the patient to recreate the experience through an internalized narrative. However, a psychotherapist can never be sure about a patient's history.

Substance use in individuals with mental retardation
Article Abstract:
There is a lack of empirical research into alcohol and drug use among individuals with mental retardation (MR). Results from two studies suggest that although most of participants did not drink alcohol, among those who did, the ratio of misusers to users was almost 1:1.
