Social work in the Bahamas: a profession helps to build a nation
Article Abstract:
Bahamanian leaders have always aimed for a social system that can adapt to the global social, political and economic challenges facing their country. However, the present system, which was drawn from American and British models, is a failure in terms of addressing the needs of the people of Bahamas. Social welfare problems in the country include economic stressors that contribute to the rising number of cases of domestic abuse, child abuse and neglect and incest. Social welfare policy and programs in the country are jointly developed by the government and the private sector.
