Spontaneous involvement and social life
Article Abstract:
Sociologist Erving Goffman's theory of 'spontaneous involvement' suggests that human expression is not controlled by human consciousness. He posits that human actions such as throat clearing and attention shifts are performed without conscious intentions. In the analysis of ritual social order, Goffman believes that spontaneous involvement within social settings is driven by feigned spontaneity and that the ritual character of conduct changes within the varying conditions of everyday life.

Social dimensions of epistemological disputes: the case of literary theory
Article Abstract:
Innovations in human sciences have evolved largely from epistemological thought, which has no known effect on natural sciences and the arts. Literary analysts use epistemological positions to differentiate themselves into schools dealing in the aspects of science and the arts. However, variations in perspective and interpretation present a challenge to literary analysts to develop better approaches in scientific and artistic interpretation.

Social movements and institutional selectivity
Article Abstract:
Political institutions exhibit either a favorable or restrictive response towards social movements. This institutional selectivity, which is present at both the macro and micro levels, is contrary to the widely held notion of the relationship between social movements and political opportunity structures. It may be seen in the effect of federalism on the regionalist and squatters' movements in Switzerland, France and the Netherlands.
