Symposium on Alan Wolfe's "One Nation, After All."
Article Abstract:
Alan Wolfe's 'One Nation, After All' was discussed by a group of sociologists at the 1998 meeting of the Pacific Sociological Association in San Francisco, CA. The book was warmly received by both the media and the political community for its thesis that middle-class America and their espousal of moderation and tolerance are what constitute American society. Criticisms of the book were offered by Barry Glassner of the University of Southern California, Tanya Luhrmann of the University of California-San Diego, Ronald J. Angel of the University of Texas-Austin and Lillian B. Rubin of University of California-Berkeley.

Trend report: survey research
Article Abstract:
Survey research methodology has developed new techniques since its adoption as a social analytical tool in the mid-1930s. Questionnaire design expanded through the addition of "don't know" options and open and closed questions. Sample design incorporated larger sections of the general population, and could be refined to reflect specific demographic or geographic data. Advancements in interviewing training and technique have also yielded improved research results.
