The cancer problem in the context of modernity: sociology, demography, politics
Article Abstract:
The cancer problem, in the context of modernity and from the point of view of a medical sociologist currently working at Bar-Ilan Univ. (Israel), as it relates to sociology, demography, and politics, has many aspects. Psychosocial factors are among its causes, and the dynamics of sexual and reproductive behavior in women are relevant, giving rise to a feminist point of view about the disease. Race, class and occupation are determinants of risk and of survival. There is a related political agenda with changing priorities. In cancer technology a major incentive for expansion exists, and there is an economic incentive to use new equipment as much as possible.

Educational differences, value of children and fertility outcomes in Germany
Article Abstract:

The analysis reveals that there is no support for interrelation between educational level and birth rate of first child as promoted by opportunity cost hypothesis.
