The homeless and neglected children of Russia

Article Abstract:

Homeless and neglected children have become an inseparable feature of everyday life and a kind of symbol of the new, post-Soviet Russia. The causes for this phenomenon are linked to the unfavorable situation in many Russian families, which reflects a serious and ever deepening crisis of the institution of the family such as births out of wedlock, almost half of all mothers raising their children alone, the number of registered marriages decreasing and the rise in the number of divorces.
