The importance of geographic data compilation units in monitoring metropolitan versus nonmetropolitan or urban versus rural population change

Article Abstract:

The consequences of monitoring population change in different areas where the available data do not fit these areas perfectly are demonstrated by comparing population change results from ordinary datasets and those obtained by using geography tailored for the purpose. It is concluded that the fictitious effects might influence the results noticeably and therefore a constant-criteria approach which can control the effects of changes in the geography would be required.

Main street transformed: community sense of place for nonmetropolitan tourism business districts

Article Abstract:

Responses from Galena, IL, residents are analyzed to identify behaviors and personal values regarding the establishment of a tourism business district in their proximity. Both native residents and newcomers were found to be highly and equally strong in their wariness of business development, indicating that the transformation of a historic downtown into a tourism business district can threaten community cohesiveness.
