The level of knowledge of South African pupils regarding HIV/AIDS

Article Abstract:

A study called THUSA BANA was undertaken by the Faculty of Health Sciences at the Potchefstroom Campus of North-West University, South Africa, with a representative sample of 1295 school children to gain insight into the level of knowledge regarding HIV/AIDS of school children. The study revealed that views on the term `HIV/AIDS' were fragmentary and no one could give an integrated definition, though they had a fair idea of how it could be transmitted, and the age and development of students also played a role in their attitudes and beliefs.
