U.S. support for regional complex contingency operations: lessons from ECOMOG

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the intervention in Liberia from 1990 to 1997 by the Economic Community of West Africa's Monitoring Group to examine effective regional, coalitional and peace operations. Factors that influenced the coalition's political and military viability were discussed. Results indicated that the existence of political viability correlates when coalition members support strong mutual interests.

Myanmar as nexus: Sino-Indian rivalries on the frontier

Article Abstract:

Myanmar's political and economic reformation in 1988 hasfailed to effectively alter the country's political power distribution pattern.However, the reformation did create new economic opportunities for Myanmar's neighbors, particularly China and India. The growing economic and political interests of both countries in Myanmar has created new tensions between China and India.
