Physicians used to advise diabetics not to engage in sports diving for this increases the risk of developing unconsciousness and low blood sugar However, the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society and American Diabetes Assn came up with precautions that diabetics can follow to have a safe dive.

Ear squeeze or middle ear barotrauma can affect diving enthusiasts. This painful condition occurs when the middle ear cannot be equalized with ambient pressure. Divers are advised to stop their descent and equalize upon experiencing the first signal of ear squeeze.
