Scientific papers dealing with diving medicine were presented at the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society's May 1996 meeting in Anchorage, Alaska. The effect of nitrox on carbon dioxide in the blood and the factors that lead to decompression sickness were among the many topics discussed.

Matters of the heart
Article Abstract:
Heart problems may not always prevent an individual from doing scuba diving. In fact, there are people with artificial aortic valves who dive. They just have to have good exercise tolerance, normal blood pressure and normal heart rhythm to perform a conservative dive.
