Why I won't use nitrox for recreational diving

Nitrox was developed to prevent or minimize the effects of nitrogen narcosis and to allow longer bottom time at specified depths. However, the stringent training, complex technology and risks involved in its use make it unsuitable for purely recreational diving activities.

Recreational skin divers do not have to make decompression stops because of the absence of adequate support facilities. However, divers taking long recreational dives should carefully control their ascent to reduce the risk of decompression sickness.
