Cost effectiveness analysis of screening of high school athletes for risk of sudden cardiac death

Article Abstract:

Cost-effectiveness analysis has been applied to screening of high school athletes for risk of sudden cardiac death. the 12-lead ECG is the most cost-effective preparticipation cardiovascular testing method of the three recommended. Similar cost-effectiveness for history and physical examination of 2D echocardiography would require a 2-fold increase in sensitivity or a 4.5-fold decrease in cost, respectively. Whether excluding athletes from competitive sports in high school will change the natural history of the disease or not is not known.

Gender differences in the kinematics of unanticipated cutting in young athletes

Article Abstract:

The study aims to compare knee and ankle joint angles between males and females during an unanticipated cutting maneuver. It is concluded that the implementation of dynamic neuromuscular training in young athletes with a focus of frontal plane motion may help prevent anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries and their long-term debilitating effects.
