Suggestions for backpacking trips in eastern states are presented. Recommended destinations include Assateague Island in Maryland, Saddleback Range in Maine, Huckleberry Trail in West Virginia, Dix Range in New York, Joyce Kilmer Wilderness in North Carolina and Cumberland Island in Georgia.

Pemigewasset Wildness Area in the Boston, New York, area is a good place to hike and camp. Other spots recommended include Mt Washington State Forest, Southern Adirondacks, Roaring Plains in West Virginia, and Mt Sterling in the Smoky Mountains.

Waterfalls have inspired such figures as John Muir, and many can be seen in the US. Mount Ranier, WA, Michigan's Upper Peninsula, Yellowstone, WY and North Shore, MN, are among the places where beautiful waterfalls can be observed.
