International Physical Activity Questionnaire: Validity against fitness

Article Abstract:

A study aimed to criterion-validate the short format of International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) against cardiorespiratory fitness as well as against tests of muscular fitness in young adult males. Almost 10% of young men had poor fitness and apparently low physical activity, but reported very high physical activity by IPAQ, suggesting a need to develop IPAQ further to solve the apparent over-reporting by a considerable proportion of sedentary individuals.

The study findings reveal that physical fitness among young men is decreased and that body mass is increased during the last 15 years in Finland.
