Kenmore Square marks the beginning of the last mile of the marathon and is the site of parties and festivities. Some folklore has emerged from the location, such as the story of Rosie Ruiz, an unaware pedestrian who emerged from a subway station and stumbled into the race.

Article Abstract:

Proper training, nutrition, attitude and racing techniques can improve performance in the last 10 kilometers of a marathon. Long training runs are essential. A slower pace during the first five kilometers helps to manage energy.
