Sailboat enthusiasts should make sure that they are sailing clear of the shoals because most of it is invisible to the naked eye. Plotting a danger bearing allows one to go past the dangerous points without having to make several position plots.

A navigational technique for sailors using local apparent noon to find their line of position or latitude is presented. It is advised that sailors apply the index error in their calculations since sextants can get out of alignment.
