Redesigning women: breast cancer & estrogen
Article Abstract:
Studies in developing countries have shown that there is reduced estrogen production in women during times between harvests when calorie intake is not as high, and that this may account for their lower rate of breast cancer. Attempts to produce a pill that will mimic that behavior are discussed.

A safer estrogen: would you take it
Article Abstract:
Estrogen taken after menopause to keep bones strong and to lower heart disease risk, may also increase breast cancer risk. But a new drug, raloxifene, has been developed to decrease the cancer risk. It will not replace estrogen, but will be beneficial for women with a certain medical profile.

Love's labor's lost?
Article Abstract:
Dr. Susan Love has been criticized for her view that unnecessary mastectomies have been performed while other treatments would have been equally beneficial. Love is currently taking a stand against hormone-replacement therapy because of its effects on the heart and bones.
