Ulrich Beck was a sociology professor in a small German college until his book, 'Risk Society', brought him international fame. Its main argument was that nuclear disaster cannot be adequately cleared up. It came out shortly after the Chernobyl accident, and Beck has continued to write on ecological topics.

Return to competition following ischemic colitis caused by severe dehydration
Article Abstract:
A case of ischemic colitis suffered by a triathlete during an Ironman competition is summarized. It is suggested that optimal intake of fluid, carbohydrate and salt will enhance performance and reduce risk to health.

The difficulties of calculating a swimming pool's volume with precision are discussed. The need to consider margin of error in making volume, flow and calcium chloride dosage-rate judgments is emphasized.
