The fifth Around Alone solo sailboat race started in Charleston, SC, in Sep 1998 with 16 participants. Around Alone has already passed the Southern Hemisphere and Brazil on its way to the finish line in Cape Town, South Africa. Marc Thiercelin leads the Open class while Brad Van Liew and J.P. Mouligne share top spots in Class II.

Autissier is a single-handed sailboat racing champion who performed notably in competitions such as the Gold Race from New York to San Francisco, CA in April 1998 and the 1990-1991 BOC Challenge. Her awards makes her an ideal model for McCormick, daughter of a press officer.

Blade thrower versus alpha male

Article Abstract:

Frenchman Mouligne and Englishman Garside were arch rivals in the 1999 Around Alone Class II sailboat race. Mouligne was previously a knife thrower in cabarets while Garside was a former soldier. Mouligne won Leg 1 while Garside took second place.
