A man describes a two-week, 40-mile backpacking trip he and a companion took in the Gates of the Arctic National Park in Alaska. They started at Walker Lake, then crossed the Arrigetch Peaks by bushwacking. The park is sparsely traveled and they enjoyed the solitude and magnificent vistas.
