Today's marathoners
Article Abstract:
There is a new breed of marathoners who seek more than a fast finish time or an all-out victory. They want to enjoy the run, and, depending upon the location, to absorb sights along the way. Others prefer to spend less time training and not worry about their race times.

The 40th anniversary edition of 'Sports Illustrated' honors Fixx for the outstanding manner in which he promoted running. Unfortunately, many people only remember Fixx as a man who died of a heart attack while running. He had a genetic predisposition to heart disease.
