Troubled times on Fletcher Christian's Utopia

Article Abstract:

Pitcairn Island, world famous for its connection with the mutiny on HMS Bounty in 1790, came to limelight in September 2004 due to a sex-abuse trial wherein half of the population of men including the mayor Steve Christian, a direct descendant to Bounty mutineer Fletcher Christian, was charged with assaulting underage girls. The community, which relies on the men to transport visitors and supplies via longboats to reach ships, fears that the trial and subsequent conviction can create a rift between islanders and visiting cruisers.
