Rod Wiemers of Galt, California, a 30-year veteran who once apprenticed under legendary reinsman Tony Amaral, trains stock and cutting horses and instructs amateurs and nonpros at his Galt facility. After riding Carolyn Renolds' Quarter Horse gelding SOR Little Lena to round-high scores in both the herd and reined work phases of the finals, he knew the roping - a skill he'd been practicing hard at - would be his greatest obstacle.
