RENTMYDVD.COM CHANGES STRATEGY

RentMyDVD.com changes its video game marketing strategy, as it opens a Web site that offers variety of DVD movie rental options, including a pay-as-you- go plan and a choice of three subscription programs. The firm expects to add video game rentals to its service mix by Dec 2001. To facilitate the new program, the company has signed an online licensing pact with online videogame rental dealer RedOctane.

MACROVISION'S CD COPY PREVENTION SYSTEM ADVANCES

Article Abstract:

Macrovision announces completion of beta testing on its SafeAudio anti-copying mechanism for audio CDs. The company developed the encrypted discs along with TTR Technologies in Israel and has successfully tested it among US and UK consumers to demonstrate compatibility with a wide variety of playback devices. Implementation decisions 'would be up to individual record labels,' according to the company.

The National Association of Recording Merchandisers had their 2001 convention in Orlando where they got to air their fears and grievances surrounding Napster and similar types of online music trading and downloading situations. Many feel that this could cut into record and DVD sales while others did not.
