An actuarial method for estimating the long-term, incidence-based costs of Navy civilian occupational injuries and illnesses
Article Abstract:
The authors present an actuarial method they have developed and applied to US Navy costs for estimating civilian employee worker compensation claims. Although such an incidence-based approach can be initially more labor intensive than the prevalence-based method more frequently used, more accurate cost information predictions result.

Why federal agencies should estimate their long-term occupational injury and illness costs
Article Abstract:
US government agencies should adopt an incidence-based approach to cost accounting for work-related illnesses and injuries rather than the prevalence-based method currently used. Compensation for the federal civilian workforce totalled $2 bil in 2000, and these costs could be reduced with different methods.
