Are TBT alternatives as good?
Article Abstract:
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is planning to implement a worldwide ban on the use of tributyltin (TBT) in antifouling paints. The move, which will be submitted at the 21st IMO Assembly in Nov 2000, wants a complete ban on the compound by Jan 1, 2008. The proposal is encountering resistance from owner organizations, such as the International chamber of Shipping, who argue that the alternatives being offered for TBT have not been proven as environmentally friendly.

Cassettes are solution for roro paper cargoes
Article Abstract:
Roro vessels have a new method for transporting paper cargoes that rules out the need for board lashings and, at the same time, reduce turnaround times. This new approach uses wheel-less cassettes. It will be first used in the few vessels that Seville, Spain-based Astilleros Espanoles will design and deliver to Swedish operator Gorthon Lines. The cassette will be equipped with the appropriate materials to enable it to carry heavy loads.
