Control system makes product flow a sure bet
Article Abstract:
International Game Technology (IGT) has shifted from using electromechanical machines to microprocessor-based hardware for its gaming machines. In response to the transition, the company decided to merge 17 of its low-tech manufacturing facilities into a single $86 million super facility in Reno, NV. IGT's control system, which is used to bring finished gaming machines to burn-in and queuing loops, includes product induction and staging, kitting and kitted cabinet storage, and assembly and test spurs as well as burn-in and package queues.

New conveyor handles big screens
Article Abstract:
Toshiba America Consumer Products has recently installed a Webb-AlumiTrak modular power and free conveyor system at its main assembly and distribution facility near Nashville, TN. The system delivers parts from a supply area to a clean room where they are presented at an ideal loading and work height to give the assembly workers maximum ergonomic comfort. The new conveyor system can assemble 20-ft track sections in less than 10 minutes. The system can also accomplish the assembly of horizontal turns in less than 15 minutes.
