Company expands in small ship sector
Article Abstract:
The expansion activities of UK-based Teignbridge Propulsion Group are reported. Teignbridge produces propellers up to 3m in diameter as well as a variety of marine equipment such as sterngear, shafting, couplings, thrusters, nozzles and bearings. It has recently opened a sales and technical support office in the United Arab Emirates to meet the rising demand in the Gulf Region. In 1992, it acquired a FRench propeller and equipment manufacturing firm in Nantes and a local competitor, the DJH, in Devon, southwest England.

Wake ducts proven on twin-screw vessel
Article Abstract:
Schneekluth Hydrodynamik devised wake equalizing ducts (WED) for twin-screw ships with shaft brackets to enhance their performance and reduce vibration. These WED have been successfully tested on Black Sea Shipping's 13,758 grt cruise ship Odessa. The WED equalizes the irregular propeller inflow occurring on the ship by allowing slower propeller inflow in the area of the shaft brackets and in the boundary layer close to the hull plating.

Healthy results but hesitant forecasts
Article Abstract:
Denmark's strong marine equipment industry is apparently not dependent on the local market for its business. The industry, which covers consultancy services to the low-speed engines of MAN B&W, had an aggregate turnover of DKr 10 billion (US$1.65 billion) in 1992, of which 90% was derived from export sales. Danish marine equipment firms, however, view the domestic market as a vital source of information for developing and testing ideas.
