Merchant Ferries' pair of ships have doubled the firm's business for the Liverpool, England-Dublin, Ireland route. The pair, named 'Dawn Merchant' and 'Brave Merchant', can load 250 passengers and 120 freight units. Among the features of the ships are two-berth cabins, a lounge, a duty-free shop, cinema and satellite television. Power for propulsion is supplied by four Wartsila 9L38 engines for each ship. Double-ender completes fleet

Dutch ferry service firm Provinical Stoombootdiensten has purchased the double-ended ferry "Prins Johan Friso" from Schelde Shipbuilding. The ferry measures 113.60 meters in length and features a 210 car capacity, a maximum carrying limit of 1,000 passengers, and five twin-deck double-enders includinga a main freight deck, a passenger deck and an upperdeck. The ship is powered by four diesel electric azimuthing thrusters producing 2,010 brake horsepower or 1,500 kilowatts and a service speed of 14.50 knots.

The completion of the Eurotunnel and other Scandinavian bridge projects has prompted ferry operators such as Stena Sealink Line to expand their fleets to accommodate additional freight volumes and maintain their competitiveness. These operators have acquired versatile ferries that allow them to adjust to seasonal variations in different customer segments. On such vessel is the King of Scandinavia which can operate either as a passenger or as freight ferry.
