Yard success may only be short-term
Article Abstract:
Experts participating in the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers' 1995 Ship Production Symposium held in Seattle, WA, believe the extension of the US Title XI shipbuilding loan guarantee program will do little to make US shipyards more competitive in the international market. They believe that compared to shipyards in Japan and Europe, US yards suffer from low productivity, excessive government intervention and poor organization and management.
