Deep water design

Article Abstract:

The UT740 offshore supply tugs acquired by Solstad Shipping from Ulstein Verft features an enhanced design that enables them to move into deeper waters and areas exposed to extreme climatic conditions. One of the features of the later model UT740s is the addition of a large stern A-frame. This frame is used in the handling of a plow for filling up trenches when the vessel is used in tandem with a pipe-laying ship. Aft buoyancy in the modified UT740 has been improved as well as the hull form to better withstand rough weather conditions.

Positive move boost confidence

Article Abstract:

Sweden's shipping industry, which include shipbuilding, ship repair and conversion facilities, suffers from subsidy, price and parity problems. Shipbuilding, which is almost non-existent in Sweden, created a landmark by building the Baltic Bright, a merchant ship. Shiprepair and conversion facilities, such as the Gotaverken Cityvarvet, are faring better since they recorded a considerable profit through improved productivity despite competition.
