Licence proposed for passenger ship work
Article Abstract:
A top official of Germany's Lloyd Werft yard suggests the licensing of yards that built, convert or repair passenger vehicles to ensure quality and attain higher safety standards. Such a policy can be patterned after the aviation indsutry, says Werner Luken, managing director of the German shipyard. Luken claims that accidents in passenger ships are most often caused by faulty materials, poor workmanship and a non-professional management system. The proposed system can eliminate these since licensed yards must follow standardized quality control requirements.
