Lifeboats a safety issue

Article Abstract:

The increasing mishaps in the performance of life saving equipment are due to commercial pressure and lack of training to operating staff. IMO and International Lifesaving Appliance Manufacturer's got together to make safety regulations and provide solutions to improve the existing equipment. Self righting, fire proof body, double skinned canopy are some of the latest improvements.

Article Abstract:

Every person aboard a ship is required to be provided with immersion suits by 2006, according to an adoption in 2004 with regard to this matter. There have been fear of suit shortage with this requirement, but the industry seemed to have delivered the needs to shipowners. The importance of quality and correct usage of immersion suits is discussed.
