Modeling fatal injury rates using Poisson regression: a case study of workers in agriculture, forestry and fishing
Article Abstract:
Poisson regression models can be used to study occupational injury rates to take into account predictor variables and to subsequently produce different sets of data analysis. The use of an unadjusted trend model produced data showing that the fatal injury rates of workers in the fishing, forestry and agriculture industries did not fall significantly during 1983-1992, while further study with the use of Poisson regression models produced evidence that the fatal injury rates of females increased substantially while the rate for men fell.

Injuries to workers and their dependents
Article Abstract:
Employers spend on the employees' and their dependents' hospitalization and treatment when injuries, whether on or off the job, are compensable. Motor vehicle crashes are the most fatal injury on and off the job. Crash injuries on the job account for 3.3% lost workday injuries and comprise 30% of off-the-job injury cases. Employers should focus their attention more on employees' safety off the job to save on fringe benefits.

The safety of commercial fishing: determinants of vessel total losses and injuries
Article Abstract:
This article examines the safety of commercial fishing. The authors, stating commercial fishing is one of the least safe occupations, maintain fire/explosions and capsizing of the vessel account for the greatest amount of crew fatalities, and collisions account for the greatest number of non-fatal accidents.
