Competition keeps prices under pressure
Article Abstract:
Ship repair prices in Northern Europe are dropping significantly as a result of intense competition between the region's leading repair companies. However, the industry still managed to record excellent business during the early part of 1995 for repair, upgrading and modification work despite depressed prices. An overview of trends affecting the ship repair sectors in Sweden, Norway, Finland, France and Germany is presented.

Competition is fierce
Article Abstract:
The competitive rates offered by the ship repair industry in the UK and the former Eastern bloc countries threaten their European counterparts. Unlike the past, UK shipyards are now fully booked and expanding, while shipyards in Poland, Russia and the Baltic States are now gaining dominance in blasting and painting services. This development prompted Dutch and German shipyards to reduce costs and to restructure.
