Rods and boxes
Article Abstract:
Problems associated with stuffing box/piston rod interface remain to be one of the biggest challenges confronting shipbuilders. These problems, which are prevalent in long-stroke engines, may be addressed through upgrade and reconditioning options. Wartsila NSD, for instance, has developed a novel stuffing box design which allows the housing to be easily mounted and dismounted during the hauling process. The device has also been shown to minimize excessive oil loss.
